Segen is a former childhood friend of Jonah. Although he made his only physical appearance in Disc 1 and Disc 6, he is regularly brought up by Jonah throughout the third season.

Background[]

Segen resided in Jonah's neighborhood during Jonah's troubled childhood. The two seemed to be on good terms with each other, as Jonah regularly went to Segen's house to play on his computer. Unbeknownst to Segen, Jonah was using Segen as an excuse to escape his family life due to his abusive father, and as such he never formed a proper relationship with Segen.

Sometime during his childhood, Segen received a copy of Hyrax in the Rocks inhabited by Angel Cammy. Although Segen regularly played the game, as time went on he became increasingly wary of it, especially after learning about the differences between his copy and an "official" walkthrough he found on YouTube. Around this time, he also rediscovered Jonah, this time through Jonah's Twitch stream where he reunited with Angel Gabby. Realizing that Jonah was familiar with his situation, Segen mailed the game to him in hopes Jonah could figure out what happened.

Although he communicates normally, he chooses to communicate to Jonah by posting messages on his bulletin board, mirroring how Jonah communicates.

Relationships[]

Jonah[]

Segen initially saw Jonah as a friend who regularly wanted to play with him, unaware of Jonah's true reason for going to his house. As a result, when Jonah broke off their friendship, Segen became a lonely child who yearned for a true friendship, leading him to Hyrax in the Rocks. Due to his feelings of abandonment, in his video to Jonah, Segen signed himself off as "an old alibi" as a reminder to how Jonah treated their friendship.

It is unlikely that Jonah meant used Segen maliciously, as the suggestion for forming an alibi to protect himself from trouble was from Angel Gabby.

Angel Cammy[]

Although Segen was not aware of their true existence, Angel Cammy was his guardian angel, guiding him throughout his childhood by giving him comfort and teaching him how to be more confident. However as their Fran had long since abandoned them, Cammy was the only one running the game, which eventually wore out Cammy's mental health. Conversely, Cammy failed to address Segen's desire for a friend, and as such he eventually became alienated from the game.
