"We can be dangerous, too, Jonah." - Angel Gabby.

Angel Gabriel, often referred to as Angel Gabby or just Gabby, is the main character of her eponymous show, Angel Hare. She serves as one of the primary protagonists of the web series.

Background[]

Angel Gabby is a white rabbit with yellow wings. Her role in the show is to provide guidance on issues of morality or personal conflict, which she often resolves with Biblically based solutions.

On the home video release, Gabby is a patient, persistent character who remains upbeat and optimistic even when she's upset (as seen in her confrontation with Francis in Tape 3). She finds humor in Francis' shortcomings and, while she does address the viewer, it's in a pre-mediated Dora the Explorer fashion. She always believes in the viewer's ability to adapt a lesson's teachings and approaches every problem with confidence.

On Jonah's broadcast tapes, Gabby does share the patient optimism of her home-release counterpart, but with the distinct difference of adapting emotionally to her surroundings because of her sentient ability to observe the viewer. She can have desperate urgency if she observes a moment of danger, and her moments of disappointment are much more severe. This version of Gabby has a serious and sincere side to her that can show reluctance, sorrow, and harrowing determination.

Nevertheless, in both cases Gabby is shown to be compassionate, sympathetic, and optimistic, true to her guardian angel persona. In fact, her determination to live up to this persona caused her to be stretched thin after being exposed to the internet, leaving her to literally stretch across multiple episodes and television series and leaving behind only a rough, magnified outline of herself in each season 2 episode.

Relationships[]

Jonah Whitman[]

Gabby is self-described as Jonah's guardian angel, and while it isn't clear whether this is a role exclusive to Jonah or if she also protects other children, she takes a keen interest in Jonah and will spend hours with him whether it's to comfort him at night as seen in the Tape 6 vignette, or to talk him through a delicate operation such as in Tape 3. As such, their relationship forms a core part of the entire web series, as many actions Jonah takes throughout the series is influenced by his relationship with Gabby. When Jonah was a kid she acted as his guardian angel.

Friend Francis[]

Due to their angel-Fran relationship, Francis is one of Gabby's closest friends, with Gabby regularly telling Francis inside knowledge on other angels and other serious topics that Francis cannot share. There are other times, though, where Francis will steal from Gabby or lie to her, as in Tape 3, and she'll show real disappointment. Her VCR Recording persona especially will frequently get annoyed with Francis when he is slow to correct his bad behavior. Despite this, Gabby is still quick to forgive Francis when he truly seeks atonement, as shown in Bonus Disc 1 where Gabby let him off easy despite Francis reading Gabby's mail without her permission.

Angel Zag[]

Both Gabby and Zaggy are angel hares that inhabit a television series and have worked together for many years prior. As such, Gabby is shown to have a strong, friendly relationship with Zaggy, with Zaggy often calling her by the nickname "Gabs" and Gabby putting up with Zaggy's sarcastic attitude. Despite their close relationship, Gabby may sometimes neglect it in favor of helping those that view her show.

Angel Cammy[]

Although their relationship remains mostly a mystery especially after many years, Gabby still considers Cammy a close friend, and shows concern over their well-being after their medium-of-choice Hyrax in the Rocks turned up as a mess years later. Despite this, she remains trusting that Cammy will not harm her or her friends.

Trivia[]

  • In the Easter Tape, Gabby's yellow robe has a slightly more elaborate collar with a fancy edge and small decorative embroidery details.
  • Some have compared Gabby to Gabriel from The Mandela Catalogue, as they reference the same angel yet are complete opposites. This comparison has been teased by the Angel Hare creators a few times, such as a Kickstarter competition and a YouTube short.
  • As a result of Analog Horror tropes, many have theorized/joked that Gabby has ulterior, nefarious motives. The East Patch themselves had played along with the joke several times, including a couple of shorts depicting, or seemingly depicting, Gabby in a malicious light.
  • Gabby and Zag are implied to be siblings in a Twitter post.[1]
