Angel Hare Wiki

Camael, often referred to Angel Cammy or just Cam, is the angel that inhabits Hyrax in the Rocks. They first appeared in Season 3, although they didn't make their first official physical appearance until Disc 5.

Background[]

Camael first appeared as a cameo in Bonus Tape 1 in an art piece displayed by Francis. The art depicted them as a brown angel hare with a white spot on their left eye. This depiction remained consistent in their future appearances. Similar to Gabby and Zaggy, Camael's name is similar to the name of an angel in Christianity.

Camael inhabits a video game called Hyrax In The Rocks, choosing to do so despite the medium being more difficult to handle compared to television series. Although it is unknown how long they had inhabited the game, they are the only entity remaining in the game, as their Fran had left prior to Season 3. That left them to run the game all by themself without any breaks, and as such they eventually became the entire game itself, playing all the characters including the King, the Princess, a Crow, a Hyrax, and an in-game persona of Jonah, and establishing all the settings in order to guide and advise the player in the form of a "quest".

As a consequence being the lone entity running the game, Cammy became solely focused on getting their work done. As a result, not only were they never able to form any meaningful relationship with the player, but a lack of breaks meant that they were effectively working all the time. This failure to take proper care of their own self gradually wore on their mental well-being, leaving them lonely, glitchy, and in constant despair, as represented by their corrupted in-game portrait. Consequently, they became used to their environment, and therefore refused to break out of his cycle until they were forced to by Gabby.

Personas[]

Cammy appears throughout Hyrax in the Rocks under various personas, with most of them being actual characters from the game.

King[]

The King is the persona that introduces the player's quest. Outside of that, he is absent from most of the game.

Princess[]

Despite her rescue being the primary "objective" of the game, the Princess is the first character that communicates with the player at the start of every playthrough, and is the final character that appears in the game, congratulating the player for the game's completion. As such, the Princess represents Cammy's quest for the player.

The Princess seems to be Cammy's primary persona, as shown in the music video for the third season mixtape.

Hyrax[]

Hyrax is Camael's most prominent persona in Season 3, appearing as a "guide" to Jonah's quest by blocking any command that did not follow the quest. As Hyrax, they also took part in a Q&A, making them the first and currently only angel to actually answer questions from the audience.

Crow[]

Crow is found outside the wizard tower in the game, informing the player that the wizard is absent. Crow is also the persona that speaks most aggressively to Jonah, pushing Jonah to ask about himself.

Rogue[]

Rogue is one of the three options for the player character. In Segen's gameplay recording, we see Cam's Rogue persona speak to Segen while confronting the in-game "Jonah". Later when the real Jonah plays the game, Gabby takes the role of the rogue. At the end of Season 3, we see Rogue again as one of the character portraits Camael combines when speaking.

Paladin[]

Paladin is one of the three options for the player character. When Jonah plays the game, Zag takes the role of the Paladin. At the end of Season 3, we see Paladin again as one of the character portraits Camael combines when speaking.

Mage[]

Mage is one of the three options for the player character. In Segen's gameplay recording, we see Cam's Mage persona urge Segen to vent his hurt feelings to the in-game "Jonah". Mage is the remaining character Jonah chooses to play as after the two angels choose theirs. At the end of Season 3, we see Mage again as one of the character portraits Camael combines when speaking.

"Jonah"[]

"Jonah" is a special persona not present to the original game and is an in-game representation of the real Jonah when he was a child. "Jonah" is replacing the asset of an old lady character seen in the original game. With how Cammy portrays "Jonah" in a villainous manner, it likely represents how Cammy feels about Jonah abandoning Segen. As such, this persona disappeared in Disc 6 after Cammy resolved their differences with the real Jonah.

Relationships[]

Segen[]

Cammy was Segen's guardian angel, helping Segen through Hyrax especially after Segen was abandoned by Jonah. In order to encourage Segen and teach him lessons, Cammy regularly played the villain in the game, allowing Segen to "defeat" them in every quest. Despite Cammy's persistence in their role to the point where it ruined their own well-being, they ultimately failed to address Segen's main issue -- his desire for a true friend -- and as such their relationship only amounted to one similar to that of a teacher and student. Cammy therefore acts as a foil to both Jonah, who likewise failed to form a true friendship with Segen, and Gabby, whose relationship with Jonah remained strong even after many years.

Trivia[]

  • One letter from each of Cammy's personas can be used to spell out "Angel Cam".[1]
